Oh the joy when you leave this kind of shop with a little something, carefully wrapped and sealed with a letter b. B for Bloesem, one of the best and most popular design blogs on the planet (not really needing my introduction), recently opened their own shop and space in Tiong Bahru in Singapore.

With Tiong Bahru being our last stop on our Asian holidays (explaining my month long blog silence), in blogers world, popping by in Bloesem was mandatory.

When they announced the opening of the space, I was really curious about the selection of design items they chose. Well, imagine the world of design in your hands and the selection and mood you have to set to fill a beautiful space like that. Irene designs her own line of products for Bloesem and the space is housing a beautiful selection of other local and international artists and designers, also hosting design classes as well. This space is very special. If you can pop by, than do.

Preden sem počutila dovolj dobro, da sem posnela fotografije iz studia, kot glamurozno kličem mini ekstra sobo stanovanja, so stvari zamenjale kar nekaj delov prostora, jaz pa sem se do dobra navadila vse nomadskosti. Studio je bil dolgo tam, kjer sem kaj natisnila in zašila. Povsod in nikjer.

Some time had to pass before I felt comfortable taking pictures of my studio room. At first, there was nothing to take pictures of, than my little four by four got a splash of white paint on the floor, which brought me some new working energy.

My inspiration for organizing the studio was Scandinavian easiness of decorating, painting the floor white and all that, a Japanese way of efficiently organizing small spaces, meaning collapsible furniture I can store away, or use my floor as a working base, and Miss Mlakar, the chicest Slovenian Advanced style lady, for arranging a space in the studio, where I would put objects of admiration. A little personal exhibition space, if you wish.

Pr’Gavedarjo so v davnih časih rekli tej domačiji, ko so v njej bivali tata Franc, mama Marija,  teta Silva, tatek Janez in hlapec Jaka.

One winter, a long long time ago, so much snow fell in the north-western part of Slovenia, that we had to go and have a look. Houses covered up in meters of snow, trees all packed and bending under the weight, and the off-roads perfectly trampled. Winter wonderland in short. Mišo suggested we go for some tea at this nice cottage, that, as he remembered, was about fifteen minutes walk away. I followed.

Fifteen minutes later, no cottage, no tea. Not even half hour later, nor an hour later, but we just kept on walking, because maybe, it was just around the next corner. And than a good hour later, after several snow eating pit stops, both very dehydrated, weak and a bit cranky, we reached the cottage, and than we found out they only take cash. Five hundred Tolars, which is today’s equivalent of 2,08 EUR, bought us two teas and a package of salty crackers.

We laugh about it still and it’s a fond memory, even romantic in a way, and it’s my first association, whenever I visit places in the region. A few months ago, I drove to the village of Podkoren, to see newly renovated hotel Pr’Gavedarjo, designed by Špela Leskovic and Aleš Košak (AKSL).

In English, the name translates to something close to as At the Beef Man’s house. That’s what this house was called a hundred years ago, when it’s residents were Papa Franc, Mama Marija, Auntie Silva, Papa Janez and servant Jaka. While deciding on a room, you’ll find the rooms carry the same names.

The house was restored to preserve Slovenian cultural heritage, many pieces of furniture and original wall paintings have been restored from the era and the whole look was translated in modern times. If you search for Slovenia originale, Pr’Gavedarjo is where to go.
